The Jersey Contemporary Musician Competition is part of our provision of opportunities for young musicians in Jersey and provides early performance and competition opportunities. The competition welcomes applications from guitar, bass guitar, keyboard, drums, and singing competitors of a Grade 4 level and above.

Competition Dates and Venues

Young musicians from across Jersey are preparing to showcase their talent at the 2026 Jersey Contemporary Musician Competition Final, taking place on Saturday, 13th June in the Theatre at Haute Vallée School.

Now in its second year, the competition – organised by Jersey Music Service – continues to provide a vibrant platform for young performers to develop their skills, gain valuable live experience, and celebrate contemporary music-making across the island.

Open to musicians performing at Grade 4 level and above across guitar, keyboard, drums and vocals, the competition highlights the depth of rock and pop talent within the local community.

Following a series of competitive heats earlier this year, four outstanding finalists – each the winner of their respective category – have earned their place in the Final. They will now go head-to-head for the coveted title of Jersey Contemporary Musician of the Year.

Each finalist will perform a short individual set, showcasing their technical ability, musicality, and stage presence in front of a live audience and adjudicator.

This year’s finalists

  • Annabelle Brown – Winner of the Singing Heat
  • Tilly Jablonski – Winner of the Drum Heat
  • Josh Davey – Winner of the Guitar Heat
  • Alexander Turpin – Winner of the Keyboard Heat

The evening will feature a live band accompanying part of each finalist’s programme, offering valuable real-world performance experience. There will also be a guest performance from 2025 winner, drummer Matt Jackson.

Performances will be adjudicated by Stuart Whatmore, a professional musician and experienced music education leader, currently Strategic Lead for the London West Music Hub. With a background as a percussionist and singer, and extensive experience supporting and assessing young musicians across contemporary styles, Stuart brings valuable industry insight to the competition.

Tickets are available at £12.50 (£5 for students and seniors): https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/jersey-contemporary-musician-competition-final-2026-tickets-1990170042170
