Our Mission

What we aim to do

At Jersey Music Service (JMS), we believe music can change lives. We aim to enrich the lives of children and young people across Jersey by providing access to high-quality, inclusive and inspiring music education.

We are committed to making sure that music is for everyone. No matter a child’s background, we want all young people to feel supported and inspired to reach their musical potential.

How we make it happen

We work closely with schools, families and partners to provide a wide range of music opportunities across the island. Our approach is carefully planned to ensure it is high-quality, sustainable and accessible to all.

Our work includes:

  • Instrumental and vocal lessons, delivered by specialist teachers in schools and out of school, taught by skilled specialist teachers, ensuring no barriers to access
  • Whole class music projects, giving children the chance to try an instrument and learn together
  • Ensembles, bands and choirs, providing opportunities for pupils to play and sing with others, building confidence and teamwork
  • Performances and events, helping young people experience the excitement of performing and celebrating their achievements
  • A strong singing programme, helping every child to sing regularly and enjoy using their voice
  • Support for schools, including curriculum support and professional development (CPD) for staff
  • Instrument loan scheme, including support for families who may need help with costs
  • Clear progression routes for children who want to continue learning and take their music further
  • Inclusive provision for all learners, including pupils with SEND, Jersey Premium, multilingual learners and those facing barriers to participation
  • Music technology and creative opportunities, opportunities for young musicians to explore technology, creativity and routes into the music and creative industries

The difference we make

Through JMS, children and young people across Jersey:

  • Take part in meaningful music experiences that build confidence, well-being, and a sense of belonging
  • Develop strong musical skills and knowledge over time
  • Perform, collaborate and celebrate their achievements
  • Access pathways into further study, lifelong music-making or careers in music

Our work also supports a vibrant and sustainable music culture across Jersey, enriching schools, communities and the wider life of the island.
