Mr Dan Macfarlane

Mr Macfarlane began his musical journey with JMS at six years old, initially as a viola student and then developing his interests in piano, guitar and many other instruments. In secondary education he studied composition, music theory and studio techniques, experimenting in both solo and group recording projects. He also contributed to Jersey Youth Service as a course tutor and director.

In 2020, Mr Macfarlane qualified from RNCM with BMus (Hons) and gained PGCE award with specialist instrument accreditation. He has worked for Jersey Music Service since 2020 and performs regularly as a session musician for function bands and independent artists.

Dr Lombard guided and supported me through his teaching to obtain distinctions in both my ABRSM Grade 8 Alto Saxophone exam and my ARSM performance diploma exam ... and I have felt my playing has improved immensely with the wealth of knowledge that I have learned through him... I have really valued the attention to detail that he provides when giving feedback on my playing, and he has been excellent in advising me on certain exercises to complete to target specific areas of my playing such as technicality and tone.

I have enjoyed being part of the JMS (Jersey Music Service) Saxophone Ensemble and JMS Big Band, both run by Dr Lombard, and especially enjoyed the variety of pieces we played and the experiences to perform that Dr Lombard worked hard for us to have, such as the summer concert held at Government House in 2022.

We have seen (our daughter's) playing go from strength to strength through Dr Lombard’s tuition and encouragement and (our daughter's) practice and ability.
